League of Legends (LoL) Question: Is there time?

    Is there time?

So, My eventual goal in League of Legends is to get mastery 7 on Akali and Irelia (along with a few others), but I am almost level 30, and I donโ€™t even have mastery 2 on either one of them yet! They are the champions I enjoy playing the most, and I donโ€™t want to be unable to hold my own in ranked games when Iโ€™m playing my main champions! Is there any way I can be able to get good at them without being unable to play any other champions?

I think the most important aspect of ranked, is to just play and have fun. Your mastery doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how you play ranked nor what level you are. You can be mastery 5 on your favorite champ but still be in gold league and level 100. To me, mastery is just another vanity flair and not much else other than that.

I would recommend to just play and keep on practicing Irelia and Akali if those are the champions that you truly enjoy, you can always level up past level 30 so you can always play more blind/draft games to get them to mastery 7. Mastery 1-5 only comes from playing games and 6-7 is just play games and get a high overall score + additional blue essence which you get from levelling up. You don't need to play ranked when you reach level 30 unless you think that you're prepared to play those games.

Okay, follow-up question: does how quickly you increase in mastery have anything to do with your account level, or is it purely depending on how good you Actually are with the champions?

Much like Psi said, the amount of mastery points you get after each game comes from your performance during that game (the grades that you get in the game e.g. an "A" "A+" "S-" "S" or "S+" etc.), the better the performance the better the points you get. The account level has nothing to do with mastery points at all, you'll not get higher mastery points if you're level 100 in comparison to someone who's level 20 for example.

I think it's just based on the mastery grades you get after each game. Shouldn't have anything to do with your account level.

Pretty much what Silverman said. I recommend you to not rush it - you do not need level 7 on Akali to be good, that level 7 is just a flexing tool that has NOTHING to do with your skills. Just make sure you have fun and you don't overcharge yourself. Also, ranked games in the first few tiers (Iron, Bronze, Gold) do not even feel like ranked games to be honest - so you have no reason to be afraid. But If you seriously want to get better at those champions, you can train some of their combos in practise tool. Also in Practise tool you can lock your level to 1 and you can learn how to last hit with no items - repeat until you have ~100 CS in 15 minutes. Watch videos of skilled players - observe their behavior - When and where do they ward? When do they engage? How do they act in late game? You can also check some good guides here on mobafire to gather some theoretical skills. Watch your own games and try to find and eliminate your weaknesses. But the best thing you can possibly do is to just play champions you like in a tempo you find comfortable just the way you like it - so you always have a good time. Hope I helped, even though I actually haven't said anything useful XD

Even when you get level 30, you don't necessarily have to jump into ranked games immediately. It might be a good idea to just stick to normal games for a while to practice your mains and some new champions. You can always two-trick Irelia and Akali, but it might be a good idea to have a simpler pick to fall back on if both Irelia and Akali are banned/picked.

EDIT: The main thing is just to have fun. It doesn't matter how skilled you are, it's just a game :). Like the others here have said: Mastery levels 6 and 7 are just flexing tools. Even after about 3 years of LoL experience (which isn't even that much) I don't play many ranked games and I only have 4 champions with mastery level 7. And I currently only play 1-2 of them frequently.
