Lulu support tips?
hii, .w.
as a lulu main, I started playing her as a top carry to the point where i now play her as mid carry. i dont really have trouble in either lanes, she has really high burst damage early game. most of the time i buy 3 doran ring 90% of my games as it helps me in fights and when im in need of space or gold, i just sell them. so my top/mid game as lulu is at top notch. the only problem is my support role as her.
Support:
i have the most trouble playing lulu at a support, i feel like there are other really good supports other than lulu. she doesnt really have high burst damage as a support, in fact, its really weak after midgame. the first build i start is a spellthief and some pots, that or crystalline flask and pots to play more aggro. throughout the laning phase, when i back, i upgrade spellthief or buy a sightstones, then buy boots of mobility as always, buy items that will build for mikaels, and finish up anything else that i bought (bar sights). then what else do i build? after i have all my core items, i dont know what to do next, ofc i usually stay with adc or roam to ward and sweep out wards, but is that just it? in a team fight, i help them initiate by whimsying and shielding them, or when the opposing team trys to initiate, i polymorph any champ that will do the most damage and keep my adc safe, that and helping out the rest of the team by ulting/shielding them. is that all there is to it? i want to damage as well, but my damage isnt really as high when im cast e+q on someones face.
what should i be building if i want damage?
am i not supposed to build damage? what should i build on most regular support games?
should i peel or keep aa'ing and using my abilities on my allies?

Always start Spellthief's Edge, 3 Health Potion's and 1 Mana Potion. Only get the upgraded Frostfang if you want to snowball lane through damage, otherwise it's more effective to get your core build (tier 2 boots, sightstone, upgraded red trinket) first. After that decide if you need Mikael's Blessing (usually good versus lots of CC or high burst), Locket of the Iron Solari (versus significant magic damage, e.g. 2 magic damage threats in top and mid) or something like Morellonomicon (when you're snowballing an advantage while there's not a clear threat on your enemy team which you need any of the former for. After that you can get whatever you need, more AP or utility.
Keep in mind that for Lulu, 40% CDR is super important to have as it means you can simply offer 40% more utility to your team. At that point your shields will last 6 seconds and have a 6.12 second cooldown, 48 seconds on your ultimate and 10 seconds on a massive speedbuff.
Simply put, it's fine to build damage but on Lulu support is a lot more effective to use your spells defensively in order to peel rather than offensively - as long as you have at least one fed carry to buff up (which occurs in about 90% of my games I think). This actually goes for Lulu mid/top as well. Also, yes, Lulu support does have some minor scaling issues (most of her skills kinda require AP to be effective late game) going into late game.
Issue: ap items that are generally very expensive and your midgame will be mediocre. Solution: build a few cost-efficient ap items.
Morellonomicon is still pretty easy to build, and part of it's build path lets me decide if I'm going full support (by building Mikael's Blessing ) or heavier on the ap side. It gives decent ap, cdr and mana regen.
Haunting Guise is generally another pretty good option because most supports don't have incredible ratios. Alternatively, and much more expensive, Luden's Tempest is also pretty nice on lower ratio champs that can poke, such as Lulu. However, by the time you finish this you won't be dealing incredible damage because the enemy team will should have decent to good Magic Resistance.
Banner of Command is a support item that is highly underrated nowadays. It helps reset pushing lanes without having to move there and, together with a good splitpushing top with Teleport, allows your team to pressure three lanes at once.
Some supports might get Rabadon's Deathcap if they're snowballing because it maximizes their ap ratios on supportive abilities ( Janna's shield, Lulu's shield, ultimate and W movement speed, etc), which means the item will still be useful regardless of the MRes on the enemy team.
A "I'm was a support but screw that" full build, (completed while keeping the spellthief evolution, which you can sell later but that would probably mean a 50 minute game), would vary somewhat like this: Ruby Sightstone Frost Queen's Claim Morellonomicon Sorcerer's Shoes/ Mobility Boots (lulu has W so sorc's or ionian) Rabadon's Deathcap/ Luden's Tempest/ Liandry's Torment/ Banner of Command Void Staff. All of it depending what you're trying to do.
P.S: I would start with a support item + potions
I think your question is,
"do i want to do damage when i play lulu support or do i want to just provide utility to the team, and if I'm only to provide utility over damage what do i do?"
Sometimes as a player you want to incorporate other skills you have into roles you don't normally play because you know those skills work in other lanes. This is a common theme in solo queue. Lets imagine for a second that you are the best LuLu top in the world. If you were to play your Perfect LuLu top in the support role bottom, you would think your skill would make you a great support LuLu! But this is not so, Support and Top are entirely different roles.
Your instinct to do damage stems from your experience top and mid with LuLu. In some cases damage is strong on a support, example: sona poke combined with ezreal. But in another instance it isn't so strong, example: Sona full damage build against caitlin.
Every game of LoL is situationally different than the one before. So some things that work some games wont work other games.
That being said, If going damage on LuLu is the right choice for your specific game or match up, Than yes! go damage, get a Rabadons and turn everyone purple!
It is up to you to determine what YOU need to do to win YOUR current match up.
For the second part of your question, Playing LuLu or any support to provide the most utility possible is all about the build. In order to build it you need money, and if you aren't scoring kills in lane you aren't getting much money. So to remedy this you can go for gold/10 quints and yellows, support masteries, and support items. note that this will make you either squishier or do way less damage, again choose what will work in your match up.
Now that you have solved your gold issue (if you have one) you can start to itemize for maximum team utility.
LuLu has a single target shield, a single target hp buff, a single target polymorph, and a single target - do you see where im going here. Supports who have single target spells have to itemize differently than say an alistar or a karma, or even a soraka.
Since you cant be aoe supporting your team with your spells, its important to itemize so that you can!
two great utility items for aoe support are:
Talisman of Ascension
Locket of the Iron Solari
Now that you have a few team buffs, lets focus on the single target spells.
Upping the CDR on LuLu will allow you to cast your single target spells more often therefore providing more utility.
Good CDR choices:
Twin shadows
Locket of the Iron Solari
Talisman of Ascension
Ardent Censer
combined with mobility boots and a sight stone and an upgraded sweeper, you should be providing more than enough stuff for your allies to get the job done.
I hope this helps
Even if it's just a suggestion, it's a very poor one and one I wouldn't even consider making. You get more gold from killing the enemy with better lane presence through runes that give combat stats than you'll get from gp10 runes.
Let me try to clarify it,
the part about the gold/10 stuff is merely a suggestion. In no way am i saying that you must get gold/10 runes if you are playing lulu. what i tried to explain was that if you are used to having more gold flow on lulu because you play her top and mid and you cs and get kills, to make up for that in bottom lane as support you COULD try getting passive gold generation from your runes.
I hope this makes it more clear for you
You are right in some theoretical comments like "Every game of LoL is situationally different than the one before. So some things that work some games wont work other games.
That being said, If going damage on LuLu is the right choice for your specific game or match up, Than yes! [...] It is up to you to determine what YOU need to do to win YOUR current match up."
However once you start giving specific advice you fall down because there's just so much incorrect stuff in here. I wish I had the time to point out everything that was incorrect, but I think you should go back to the basics and look up what some high elo/professional supports do instead of giving advice yourself.
