Aatrox loves to play in melee range and can prevent your escape with his many knockups. You will lose 1v1 almost always.
Ahri
Your CC works well to hinder Ahri's dashes and you can buffer her charm with your Q, but she will out-damage you most of the time.
Akali
Akali is a strong champion, but land an early R or AA on her and you can Q her in her shroud. If she ults or hits an E on your ADC, focus her with everything you have.
Akshan
Root Akshan in his swing and you'll kill him most times.
Amumu
Use your CC to keep Amumu away from isolated targets.
Anivia
Anivia's wall can sabotage your Q, so make sure she doesn't have it before engaging.
Annie
Pay attention to when Annie's stun is up to buffer it with a Q. You can kill her most times.
Aphelios
Aphelios can put down a turret to block your Q and then kite you away. Engage with an R or Q a wall, then AA.
Ashe
Phase Rush is incredible into Ashe's slow, and her lack of mobility makes her an easy target. Use your Q to buffer her R.
Aurelion Sol
You win early, he wins late. Use Q to buffer his R or to get out of his E.
Azir
Azir's wall and mobility make him a very hard target to lock down, and he can poke and kite you all day long. You have to time your Q incredibly well to buffer his R.
Bel'Veth
Bel'Veth wants to be in your attack range to E and get her true damage off. Save your Q or R to break the E channel, otherwise you will get melted.
Brand
Brand's damage over time is mitigated with your W and he has no mobility. Buffer his Q stun to kill easily.
Caitlyn
Caitlyn's poke and range make her annoying and you can't buffer her traps with your Q, but get on top of her and she will pop.
Camille
Block her true damage with your W and interrupt her E with a Q, AA, or R. Save a piece of CC in case she ults you.
Cassiopeia
Cass will block your Q with her W and then cut you down quickly. Watch out for her R.
Cho'Gath
You can beat Cho early, but once he exceeds around 6000 HP you can't kill him. Use your Q to buffer his knockup.
Corki
Dodge Corki's skillshots and wait for his W, then oneshot him.
Darius
You can never 1v1 Darius; instead, just try to keep him occupied with Phase Rush until teammates come and block his bleed with your W.
Diana
Use your CC to keep Diana away from squishy teammates.
Dr. Mundo
Once he reaches 6 you can't kill him anymore. Burn his passive with your Q, then use E to slow and AA.
Draven
If you dodge or buffer his E you will win every time.
Ekko
You can use Q to get out of Ekko's Q and W slows, and if uses E to get on you, respond with AA into Q and E out.
Elise
Play for an early countergank and use CC to keep her at bay.
Evelynn
You win early. In the late game, use sweeper to get vision and Q her before she can proc her W.
Ezreal
He can dodge your skillshots with his E, but in teamfights, he is an easy target. Use W to mitigate his W+Q combo.
Fiddlesticks
If you can find out where he's ulting, buffer your Q to hit his destination, then AA and R before he goes into his channel for a quick kill.
Fiora
True damage, dashes, and spell shields are your worst enemy.
Fizz
He can dodge most of your stuff with his E. Wait for it to go on cooldown.
Galio
You can prevent his R if you're close enough.
Gangplank
AA his barrels or block some damage with W, then Q onto him. He will W your AA root, so keep your E up to slow him again if you don't have R.
Garen
His silence sucks for you, and his tenacity + move speed make him really hard to lock down.
Gnar
Kill him when he's small.
Gragas
Buffer his R or E with your Q and take short trades.
Graves
If he dashes onto you, Q him, then walk behind him so that his Q doesn't hit you on the way back. Respond to his W with an E to keep him nearby.
Gwen
True damage and dashes and intangibility.
Hecarim
Use your hard CC to cancel his E and use your E to hinder his passive AD buff.
Heimerdinger
Heimer loves to block your hook with a turret, then stun and W you.
Illaoi
Dodge her E. If in lane for an extended time, use the AA reset on your W to clear her tentacles fast.
Irelia
Use your Q to buffer her E stun if you can't dodge it, and proc Phase Rush to run through her R daggers.
Ivern
Ivern used to be pretty easy to fight but Daisy is formidable now. Buffer Daisy's knockup with your Q to avoid a nasty CC chain.
Jarvan IV
His R is bad news for you; if you try to buffer his EQ knockup with Q, he'll just hop on you and beat you in the ring.
Jax
He beats you every time. Buffer his stun and use phase rush to run away.
Jayce
Buffer his knockback with a Q and stay on top of him for an easy kill. Don't let him poke you down or run away.
Jhin
CC him when he's in his ult animation. Easy pickings.
Jinx
You can't buffer her traps, so walk around them. Dodge her W so she can't kite you.
K'Sante
Ganking K'Sante is fairly straightforward, but you can't beat him in a 1v1.
Kai'Sa
Ult her before she goes invis, and if it doesn't go through, Q at her most probable position. Use your W shield to block her passive proc or an isolated Q.
Kalista
When you auto her she can't dash. Use the AA reset on your W to kill her sentinel.
Karma
Her W root is super easy to time your Q with, and she is fairly squishy. Try to walk out of the tether range if she RWs you so that she doesn't get the extra healing, then Q back onto her.
Karthus
Easy kill, then run away with phase rush. Block ult damage with W shield.
Kassadin
He can dash over walls, making your ult kind of useless if you target him.
Katarina
Pay attention to her daggers and Q towards them when she is about to dash. Save R for her R, then kill.
Kayle
Before 6 she is an easy kill. When she ults, use Q or R during the cast time while she's standing still, then auto to save your teammates. If you're low, walk away to avoid the damage, then Q or R back onto her.
Kayn
When he passes through the wall throw a Q at him, and even if you miss, the cooldown will be halved. Use your E to keep him away from teammates.
Kennen
His high MS makes him hard to hit; your best option is to ult him in teamfights before he ults your backline.
Kha'Zix
Try to ult him before he goes invis and follow the trail to stay nearby. Use your CC to keep him off of squishy teammates.
Kindred
Kindred will dash over walls if you ult her and beats you after level 6 with her R. Lock her down, then run away.
Kled
He beats you 1v1, but if he's unmounted, you can kill.
Kog'Maw
Engage with Q, burst him down, then avoid his passive with Phase Rush.
LeBlanc
She will hit you and you will not hit her. If she gets sloppy you can Q-AA-R her under tower.
Lee Sin
If he hits you with Q, wait for him to begin his dash, the Q towards him to interrupt. If you have teammates nearby, use AA-R to prevent him from dashing away and secure the kill.
Lillia
Q towards a wall before you get slept, and use your E and Passive to keep her off your back line. Use W to block her Q passive damage.
Lissandra
AA or Q her attempts to E away. Sometimes you can get lucky and buffer her W or even her R. Use Phase Rush to run away from her passive.
Lucian
His dashes make him hard to hit, but get on top of him and he's dead.
Lux
She has no mobility. Buffer her Q to kill.
Malphite
Malphite will get in your way if he's playing tank and steal your movement with his Q. If he's playing AP, you can't kill him before he kills you.
Malzahar
His silence is a nightmare, but other than that, he's pretty easy to kill. Try to break his spell shield with E and use CC to interrupt his ult on your allies.
Master Yi
If Yi gets fed save all your CC for him and try to stay out of his attack range as much as possible. Otherwise, just Q him and let your E and teammates kill.
Miss Fortune
Use CC to interrupt her R, and ult her early to break her W MS passive.
Mordekaiser
He wants you to CC him and he will buffer your R with his own R. In short fights try to buffer his E with your Q.
Nasus
Weave in and out of his vision to keep him occupied and deal damage with E. Use Phase Rush or Q to run if he Withers you.
Nautilus
Use your Q if he tries to Q away to interrupt the dash and keep him in range. You can buffer his ult with your Q and drop a slow before the dash starts to prevent him from staying on top of you. Use W to counter his E damage. If he tries to Q buffer away, wait for the dash to barely start, then auto attack to stop the dash.
Neeko
Despite her powerful CC, your ult essentially counters her entire kit. Dodge her Q and buffer her ult.
Nidalee
She will poke you down then assassinate you after you engage on her.
Nilah
She will dodge your passive root and then she can chop you down. Buffer her R pull with a Q.
Nocturne
If he gets on you, break his spell shield with your E, then W+AA, then Q away from the fear. If he ults a nearby ally you can use both Q and R to CC and at least one of them will hit through the spell shield, then AA to root and keep your teammate safe.
Nunu & Willump
You can Q to evade his ult, or use it to buffer his W knockup or his E root. If you can win 1v1, use Q or R to interrupt his R channel and then E to slow him. If he tries to snowball away, AA him to interrupt.
Olaf
You lose when he uses R.
Orianna
Low mobility makes her an easy target.
Ornn
A good Ornn player will stomp through your R with his W, and Qing towards walls is not advisable when he has E up. Try to dodge his W, and use your hard CC to prevent him from recasting his R.
Pantheon
He will kill you 1v1 and block most of your combo damage with his E.
Poppy
Poppy can ground your Q with her W and then CC you for a long time with her E and R. Engage first with an AA or R.
Qiyana
Hook her when she's invisible and use AA or R when she's visible to keep her from running.
Quinn
Buffer her E by Qing to where she will vault to, then kill.
Rammus
His taunt lasts a while and he will have fairly high tenacity so your AA is not quite as useful. Try to hit him with an R targeted on a different champion to keep him off your back line.
Rek'Sai
Q towards where she will pop up if she burrows or uses ult. Use your CC to keep her away from allies. You lose 1v1.
Renekton
He will kill you. Take short trades and run.
Rengar
Use CC to keep your allies safe and prevent his dashes.
Riven
As with most other bruisers, Riven kills you.
Rumble
Stay out of his R and dodge his Es. If he uses Q, engage on him and walk to his back to avoid being hit.
Ryze
Ryze does a lot of damage, but you can pull him out of his ult if he tries to warp away. If you can't buffer his root, E for slow and then walk away.
Samira
Her spell shield blocks your Q and R. When it's on cooldown, you can do a lot of damage, but she might still kill you.
Sejuani
Her passive blocks your E slow and she can be surprisingly hard to lock down.
Sett
He will kill you.
Shaco
Annoying to play against, but if you mark him with an R before he ults, it's a free kill. Use E to destroy boxes.
Shen
Shen will block your passive with his W, and his taunt can ruin your engage setup. He can rudely interrupt your attempts at assassinating his teammates.
Shyvana
She does a ton of damage, so keep her away from your team with your CC. Keep in mind that she is unstoppable when she ults.
Singed
You can block his poison with your W and buffer his fling with your Q. Your E slow and passive keep him from moving. Only thing to watch out for is if he grounds you.
Sion
He's hard to kill, but you have a lot of outplay potential, and you can easily root and run from his passive.
Sivir
Sivir will try to block your Q with her spell shield, so instead simply walk at her. If she ults, use Q+R to guarantee CC and then kill.
Swain
Proc Phase Rush and keep him locked down during his ult to cancel it as soon as possible. You can buffer his E root and pull with your Q.
Sylas
Sylas becomes a monster with Nautilus' R.
Syndra
She has no mobility and you can buffer her stun with a Q. Sometimes she can kill you with R, so it's best to play it safe and dump all of your CC on her if you're going for the kill.
Tahm Kench
He will dash onto you and stun you and eat you and kill you.
Taliyah
Her wall can get in your way and her E will stun you if you try to use Q. Be careful here.
Talon
Hit him before he jumps over a will and he will die.
Teemo
You can Q or E him in a bush if he's invis. Don't auto him while you're blind.
Tristana
Tristana will jump over a wall if you ult her and can buffer your Q with her jump. She can outplay your initial engage with jump+R or flash+R and burst you down with her E after. Be prepared to spend a lot of CC on her.
Trundle
He put pillar down hit you with club.
Tryndamere
CC him in his ult to keep him nearby. His only outplay potential is dashing over a wall when you ult him, but he does a lot of damage.
Twisted Fate
Buffer his gold card with a Q and kill.
Twitch
You can Q and E him while he's invis and your high CC negates his ult.
Udyr
He's faster than you and does more damage and shields more and is tankier. He will go unstoppable if you try to CC him. Udyr is my personal ban on Nautilus.
Urgot
He will E your engage and kill you shortly after.
Varus
Buffer his root and kill.
Vayne
Vayne's dashes make her a hard target to hit and her true damage can kill you incredibly quickly.
Veigar
Wait for his cage to expire and then kill.
Vel'Koz
The poke is annoying, but dodge his E and engage for a quick kill.
Vex
Vex is surprisingly tanky and does considerable damage. Your Q counts as a dash and will charge her passive.
Vi
Vi will kill you quickly and dodge incoming CC with her R.
Viego
You can buffer his stun and CC him to keep him away from yourself and your teammates.
Viktor
He will try to run away with his cage; you can Q through it or Q right as it's about to stun you to buffer.
Vladimir
He'll dodge all your CC with his pool.
Volibear
Voli can kill you and dodge some CC with his ult, but he's not quite as powerful as champs like Olaf and Fiora.
Warwick
Use CC to keep him off of your teammates. Kite him with your E to mitigate his passive healing.
Wukong
Do not engage on the clone! Good wukong players will dash away from your Q, leaving their clone to get hit without you noticing. It can be better sometimes to Q-E instead of Q-AA-E to apply a slow earlier in case the real Wukong is nearby. He has high damage.
Xayah
Xayah will dodge your CC with her ult and then root you. Mind your footwork and don't get kited.
Xerath
Easy kill.
Xin Zhao
Xin is one of the strongest 1v1 fighters in the game and will block your allies' damage with his R. Even if you hit him with heavy CC, he can kill.
Yasuo
Yasuo's windwall blocks your Q and R. He will Q3 you when you're in melee range and do huge damage. if you try to buffer his knockup he can wait for your dash to start, then cast R to prevent your escape.
Yone
Yone is a strong, high damage champ, but he is quite weak to hard CC. Use it to stop his movement during his E and throw your Q at his spirit when he snaps back.
Yorick
He will put you in his cage and chop you down. Your only escape is a very well timed Q to pull yourself out while the cage is rising. Otherwise use your AA reset on W to try to take down the cage as fast as possible or to execute two minions. Try to keep him away from his wife.
Zac
Keep him away from the blobs to reduce his healing and interrupt his E channel with Cc.
Zed
Zed can never really kill you as long as you auto him after his ult. He is incredibly hard to gank if he doesn't waste his W in lane.
Zeri
Zeri has high close-range damage and a long dash to avoid your ult. Engage on her at your own risk.
Ziggs
Buffer his knockback and get an easy kill.
Zoe
You can buffer Zoe's sleep and sometimes dodge her Q as a result. Her R leaves her incredibly vulnerable, so take advantage by Qing her original location when she is dashing back.

I am Juuloaf, an unremarkable league of legends player. I don't have any accolades, no twitch or youtube account, or anything of the like. What I do have, however, are hundreds of games on Nautilus, and I would like to share some of the wonderful and unexpected builds this champion has.
Why Nautilus?
Most think of Nautilus as a purely supportive champ because of his targeted and powerful crowd control abilities and his ability to tank damage with his W. I wanted to bring him into the jungle because of his enhanced damage on his E, Riptide, and for his powerful early gank pressure. My phase rush build was inspired by KiNG Nidhogg's phase rush J4 build, but you can build Nautilus with a ton of different runes and items, each with their own playstyle. You should have no trouble finding something you like in this guide!
Pregame / Abliities Rundown
As mentioned previously, Nautilus has myriad builds, and sometimes one is better to take than another if it suits your team better. If you have an Ornn top and a tank Cho'Gath mid, for example, you should probably build damage. On the other hand, if your team has four squishy champions, it is probably better to build tankier. Nautilus can fit into essentially every team composition.
Pros and cons of each build, summoner spell pair, and runes are described in their respective Notes sections above.
If you haven't played much Nautilus before, you will want to jump into the practice tool and try a few things out: Nautilus's Q, Dredge Line, has a notoriously wonky hitbox. It will often hit things you don't expect it to, and will even sometimes not hit things that it should have. Throw your anchor around the map to see wall hitboxes and to get a feel for the exact width and length of the anchor head.
Nautilus's W, Titan's Wrath, acts as an auto attack reset. Try autoing a camp, then cast Titan's Wrath and auto it again. This simple combo can deal a lot of damage by itself when building AP.
Nautilus's E, Riptide, is your main damage source and clearing tool. It launches three waves scaling with 50% AP, but waves do half damage past the first. So overall, this ability scales with 100% AP if you hit all three waves. You can cast it between autos, and with high CDR, it approaches a 2.2 second cooldown. At max rank, it applies a 50% AOE slow. This is your best ability. Press E a couple times to see the range and timing of the three waves.
Nautilus's R, Depth Charge, is an insane targeted AOE CC ability that scales with 80% AP. It knocks up all champions it travels through until it gets to your target, then applies a larger knockup. You will often want to use this ability to isolate singularly overextended targets, but it is even better in team fights where you can potentially knock up the entire enemy team with a single ability.
Your standard jungle clear combo is AA -> Titan's Wrath -> AA -> Riptide -> AA. You lead in with an auto to bring all the units close, then use Titan's Wrath for an AOE auto. Don't use Riptide first because it will delay your second auto and you will probably miss one of the waves.
Nautilus can cast his basic abilities at his original location when in the Dredge Line animation. Try throwing your anchor at a wall and using Titan's Wrath or Riptide immediately after. This can shield you from damage or slow nearby enemies to aid in your escape.
Similarly, if Nautilus is CC'd during the cast time of his Dredge Line, he will pull himself to his target anyways. This can be incredibly useful for dodging combos which rely on CC or for staying on top of enemies who want to run away.
You can Flash + Q to surprise enemies with a hook or to reach long distance targets, and by Flashing during your Depth Charge cast, you can instantly knock up your target.
A standard full combo on an enemy champion is: Depth Charge -> Dredge Line -> AA -> Titan's Wrath -> AA -> [code Riptide -> AA. This deals 350% AP from abilities alone and has essentially zero counterplay.
Core Items and How to Fight
The greatest item for Nautilus is Cosmic Drive. It offers 30 ability haste and lots of extra movement speed on top of a remarkable 100 AP. No matter what you're building, you can never go wrong with this item. Fimbulwinter is also an essential item in most builds for its mana regeneration and essentially constant shielding.
As mentioned in the build notes, Nautilus's best mythic is Night Harvester, again for the ability haste and mythic passive and the movement speed it provides. But again, since Nautilus has severe mana issues later, both Rod of Ages and Everfrost are decent mythic items too.
Assassin and Tank items are dicussed in their builds above, and none of these really fall into the category of a "core item". You should build more armor into AD comps, more magic resist into AP comps, etc. Similarly, you should build damage differently depending on the enemy's resistances and tankiness.
How to fight:
Basic fighting strategies are listed at the end of the Abilities Rundown list.
Phase Rush: By taking phase rush, you have committed to being your team's primary engage tool. Your job is to single out targets, prevent thier escape, and get yourself out of danger. This can be done with something as simple as a Q -> AA -> E or Q -> AA -> W -> AA. Your increased movement speed and slow resist can either help you continue to go in or evade enemy skillshots, then throw out another ability thanks to your ability haste-focused build. By keeping your E on a low cooldown, enemies are slowed constantly and will struggle to follow you around. You should use R when there are many teammates around who can capitalize, when your knockup will hit four or five enemy champions, or when you are too deep and have no other escape option.
Electrocute or Dark Harvest: This will play similar to an Evelynn, Ekko, Nidalee, or Elise. Your only job is to kill the enemy carries to win teamfights. Use fog of war and the mobility on your Q to get behind the enemy, then engage with R and use Q + E to instantly kill many champions. More depth is given in the build notes.
Aftershock or Glacial Augment: This is the most traditional Nautilus build and the easiest to play. Use your hard CC to annoy champions and your high HP scaling on your W to tank a ton of damage. Once again, more depth is given in the build notes.
Conclusion
I've provided some notes on matchups against all non-support champions in the Threats section. Take a look, I hope it'll be helpful!
Nautilus is an incredibly satisfying and fun champion to play outside of the support role. He's relatively easy to pick up and can dominate most games. Try him out today!
